Club Tengu

Hey guys, Bea here, with more arts to share!

Some of you may have already seen this via my Instagram– since I typically update that first with a brief description for some of the work I do. But here we have Club Tengu!

This Illustration was done for, and was made to accompany the monthly collectable for April that I made.

For those who may not know, I am an artist with Gaiaonline, and  all of the sets I share, are original concepts designed and created by me, along with the descriptions that follow each character.  So- to tell you a bit more about them–

Vagrant Rider: (cat biker) Having heard of Club Tengu, a group of modern day Ronin that have banded together, she follows the lead of two of its most infamous figures, in hopes to see if she too can join its ranks.

Rushing Viper: Like her name suggests, Viper is quick on the draw, showing no hesitation when she strikes, and with her swift moves and sharp eyes, she’s never missed a target.

Silent Tiger: Among Club Tengu’s stealthiest, Tiger earned his name for his ability to move swiftly and silently. Calculating his every move, Tiger strikes with such precision, that not one of his targets had ever seen his blade, prior to being struck.

This set, was a challenge to make, particularly because of details that went into it, and the vibrant choice of colors. Color is something that I consistently struggle with, but lately, I’ve been a bit more daring with my choices. So far, I very much like the results in my most recent work, that you’ll be seeing over the next couple of days!

Anyway, I hope you liked this post, and as always, till next time, Enjoy !

Hey Guys! Bea here!

Another day, with more arts to share!

This time, we have, well, a peter-pan inspired character.- at least that was the general theme I was working with.

This was a quick painting, and aligns more to my anime-style of painting. Depending on what I’m working on, or who I’m doing work for, my style tends to shift between semi-realism, and this style.

This one in particular, accompanied  the work I did for for February’s Monthly collectibles, and these are the items I pixeled, and my illustration that tells a little bit about each character’s set of items!

Welp, that’s it for this post!  But more coming soon 😀 Hope you liked it, and as always, till next time, Enjoy!

Ice and Snow

If only he knew, that a frozen heart is incapable of love…

Hey guys, Bea here! And I come bearing arts to share! And this one is all about love and winter 😛

To tell you a bit about the characters, the lovely lady is Purest Ice and her handsome companion is Blackest Snow

To her, nothing is more beautiful than a world frozen in snow and ice. If only her reign could last forever, she’d make the whole world her very own winter wonderland. He, on the other hand is enchanted by the beauty of winter, and gave his heart, unaware that in doing so, it would turn cold.

This illustration, like many I’ve done, was made for for the December Monthly Collectible for 2015, to compliment the collection of items I created :).

Like many of the works I have sitting aside right now, I was eager to share this one, but time has not been on my side. Holiday Hustle, I call it.  For some reason, without fail, even though I’m not working in retail, October through to New Years is the busiest time for me, which makes it really difficult to find time to write, especially when I’m sleep deprived lol.

Aside from that, but also in addition to it, I’ve gone through a really big change in my life that I’ve been waiting for the right moment to sit down and share– and it is a change that will impact on how I run my blog going forward. For example, there are a quite a few changes I wish to make, like to my posting times, subject matter and content, and the structure in which I write. And there are a few things I wish to implement, like challenges and games.

Overall though,  I’ve been at this blog for a full year so far. I’ve experimented, tried different things, found out what works for me, and what doesn’t, and my goal for 2016 is to create a space here that is a bit closer to my vision of what I want my blog to be. Basically a place where I can share my art, and my growth, as I challenge myself in ways that work with my schedule and not against it, so I can be consistent. There’s more to it than that of course, but for now I’m just keeping it simple and sweet 😀 K.I.S.S ya’ll! KISS

Because of the Holiday Hustle, I’ve decided to abandon the Monday Evening Posts for the time being until I can sit down and really sort everything out. I’ll still try to post what I’m up to on a weekly basis with art, or works in progress, but I wont be sweating it lol. In the meantime, for all those who’ve shared your support, or even just read through to this point, thanks 😀  It means a lot to me!

As always, more arts coming soon, Happy Holidays everyone! Till next time, Enjoy!

Monday Evening Post

Hey Guys! Bea here, and waddoya know– It’s my WordPress Anniversary 😀 and the new format looks weird, so it’s taking some getting used too >_<.

Anywho, I has arts to share!

This isn’t the complete image– In fact, the original completed illustration is a lot fuller, but I decided to add more to it a little late in the game that I wish to finish before posting the full thing. I can, however tell you a bit of what the story is behind this one.

These characters were designed for Gaia Online’s Monthly Collectable for November, whose names are Flora and Autumn, and they are both the physical embodiment’s of what their names imply. She’s a flower, who’s life is fleeting, and he is fall. The tragedy is, they fell in love.

A little caption that was written for both-

Flora’s Last Waltz: Dancing with Autumn one last time, Flora takes a steady breath and holds him close before letting go, leaving with the last breeze of the harvest season.

Autumn’s Serenade: He holds her one last time, then plays a song for her as she goes, one final dance as she disappears with the wind.

On a side note, SDCC both burned me out and left me inspired. Weird combination, I tell you!  But one of the things that I’ve been trying to do, since that experience, is be more creative in how I imagine the theme’s I’m working with, character designs, expressiveness, and composition, while still being practical with my designs. These are things that I’m trying to apply to my work, as a whole.

In a way, challenging myself like this, though it’s subtle, is like learning how to do basic things all over again. It can be a bit frustrating, but exciting when the results show progress. Still working on the progress part, but it’s getting there, and I have Inktober to thank for that!

Speaking of which, because I have quite a few works to share, I will be spreading them out– and sharing them throughout the week, leading into next week. This will give me some time to write something special about each piece, and tell you guys about some of the exciting transitions I’ve been going through, with my career:)

Also, sorry about this post is coming a bit late at night– since my browsers or WordPress, or whichever are not without their issues “still” I had a bit of trouble. Even so, I’m just glad to be able to share this post with you all!

Hope you liked what I had to share, and as always, till next time, Enjoy!

Thursday Evening Post

Hey Guys! Bea here, and this time, I has new arts!

OctLoResFinally, something finished! Feels like it’s been forever since I’ve been able to do a full painting, considering I wasn’t feeling well enough to do it, but I’m so happy to be back on track, and I’m exciting about returning to some of the projects I started with my sketchbook exclusives too.

So, to tell you a bit about this illustration, the theme is burlesque, both are dancers, (for both sexes to enjoy because thats how it should be!) and it goes with the items I created for the month of October, for

— an odd coincidence because a lot of the art I’ve been doing lately  has been burlesque themed. I love it though, gave me an excuse to watch Moulin Rouge for the 100th time! That movie is friggen beautiful, guys!

On another note, a fun update from the 6 character commission that’s been in progress!

SethCharsloI am happy to announce that the lineup is complete for these character sketches, though, still a work in progress because everyone is naked right now :D. This commission is a challenging one though, in that I usually don’t get the opportunity to work with such unique body types, so a lot of research was needed to try and understand the anatomy of these characters while I worked. All in all, Im happy with how it’s turning out and even more happy that my client is happy :). annnd, in other news, I’ve just realized that I gave the men nipples and not the women o.o; hrm.

Anywho, I hope you liked this post– and I cant wait to bring you more as I’ve already started sketching with my fancy new art supplies 😀 So as always, enjoy!

Monday Evening Post

So for the past couple of days, since I’ve been working a lot, I experience a moment where I decide I’ll lay down and take a nap, and despite my efforts, setting my alarm to go off multiple times, I end up sleeping like a brick until I wake up the next day x_x. Hence Forth, the Monday Evening Post, turned into a Tuesday.

On with Today’s post! Introducing, the Diamond Dancer!

Illustration for, June's Monthly Collectable Illustration with Gaia Online

Featuring a lady assassin/Jester who uses her blade dance to get close to the king. This was of course done for, as a monthly collectable– and these are the items I created (cept for the envelope lol)

Diamond Dancer:

A woman of very few words, the Diamond Dancer has trained her whole life for this moment, with one goal in mind– To claim the Platinum Throne.

Platinum Prince:

A young and wealthy prince with a love for performance art, could care less for anything but his own interest, even as his people wallow in poverty…but he may just be in for the show of his life, when the Diamond Dancer enters his court.

Emperor Knight:

He may be short, but no one gets to the Prince except through him…though he may not be as loyal as he seems.

I’ve been learning so much doing these types of illustrations, such as different techniques that are commonly used for art like this, how to use my brushes to render effectively, and gaining a better grasp on how to portray value, color and depth. So to help remember some of the things I’ve learned, I’ve started making brief tutorials for myself to go by which I hope to share with you all in a later post when it doesn’t look like scribbles to anyone but me lol.

But yeah, this post is a brief one, but good things in store for Mondays to come! Defiantly more new art to share, along with some things I’m preparing to implement after I return from the Comicon 😀
Till next time, Enjoy!

Thursday Evening Post

Post Apocalyptic Sunrise

gaiaart2“I know you don’t talk much,” She began “But I wanna know, is this a world in ruin…or the perfect playground?”

The smirk could be heard in her voice when she spoke, leaving no question to what the answer was in her mind. To her disappointment, he felt no need to comment.

Ladies and Gentlemen– Meet our Post Apocalyptic Princess, and her companion– Dystopian Hero– two of three characters I designed for the items I created for Gaia’s March Monthly Collectable.  Feel free to check it out here!

So this illustration has two renditions. The first was originally done for Gaia in a different layout, for March’s Monthly Collectable, and the second I did for portfolio purposes.

It’s been an interesting learning experience for me, because I’m studying into concept art– and different methods artists use to reach a final product. One, in particular, involves doing character concepts, and then laying them out on a background. Hence, the purpose for these.

APConceptArt1This was my first time taking this approach, so naturally I had a rough time, but as per usual in my experience, the rough times usually leads to some valuable lessons learned.  The one I learned in particular this time around was that– if you think you can do better, go for it.

I say that because I went through two drafts of drawing these characters, before reaching the final version. This was the first.

APConceptArtI was actually really proud of this when I drew it 😀 but there were problems with it. Firstly, my female had some balance issues concerning her legs, and, I needed to draw them in a way that they could be arranged in a setting with background. These poses, quite simply were just too straight forward.  So, onto draft 2!

APConceptArt2I had to really think about the poses in this one, because I had the final illustration in mind. That, and I had to work out the issues with the girl’s standing position. One thing I learned from school, was that the feet should fall directly in line with the shoulders, if your characters are going to stand. Of course it’s okay to break the rule if you want to make something look awesome. Good exaggeration comes in handy, but I needed her to be more accurate for what I was going for.

Once I got the characters mostly drawn, I moved them over into another canvas, arranged and sized them, painted the background, then colored them.

Overall I love the process, and it’s something I’ll be doing going forward with these types of illustrations, all the while working to improve the process for myself.

As always, Enjoy!
