Cowboys, and Westerns

Seems to be the theme of this month- oh and werewolves!

Hey guys! Bea here! Hope you’re ready to see some arts!

Since much of my time is spent doing commission work, I’ve learned that no matter how busy I am, it’s important to take some time to simply draw whatever random thing that comes to mind that I want to do.

Well, that moment came last night when I went out and saw Hateful Eight with Zygona.  I’ve always been a fan of Quintin Tarantino’s work, since Kill Bill–  and became interested in titles like Pulp Fiction too. I mean, what Tarantino is able to do with his movies, visually, has always charged and inspired me in creative ways. I

n his most recent movie, the Hateful Eight, my favorite character, played by Samuel L Jackson is Major Warren.  I loved his design, and his character is so well written that I couldn’t resist drawing him…Only, as a woman o.o.

There wasn’t any reason to draw him as a woman, other than the fact that I loved his outfit and wish I could cosplay as him every day >_<. I mean his jacket is, omgaah! Love it!

This sketch isn’t done though– I certainly want to fully render it, but I’ll save that for a time when I have more leisure. What’s great though about doing this sketch is that it also helped me to set up for my next set of commissions that are in progress.

Gothic Dust

A few months ago, I was contacted by a nice guy who I’ll refer to as Ray, who commissioned me to do 4 character illustrations, plus an ad illustration, and the name of his story is Gothic Dust.

From what I can say about it, it has a western/cowboy style with some rather interesting characters I hope you all get to learn more about as I go through designing each one.

So far, we are in phase 1- thumbnail silhouettes

Poses are important, when designing non-static characters because it tells you a bit more about them through their body language,  and thumbnail silhouettes help me get a feel for that, and the energy each character has, prior to adding all the details.

Much like the last set of character designs I did, I’ll be saving each phase to show you the steps, so that when I’m done I can animate them.  But unlike my previous character designs, because these will all be complete renderings, there will be more steps to record.

I have a few more concepts I have to start sketches for, so stay tuned!

In the meantime, I hope you liked this post, and as always, Enjoy!

Ice and Snow

If only he knew, that a frozen heart is incapable of love…

Hey guys, Bea here! And I come bearing arts to share! And this one is all about love and winter 😛

To tell you a bit about the characters, the lovely lady is Purest Ice and her handsome companion is Blackest Snow

To her, nothing is more beautiful than a world frozen in snow and ice. If only her reign could last forever, she’d make the whole world her very own winter wonderland. He, on the other hand is enchanted by the beauty of winter, and gave his heart, unaware that in doing so, it would turn cold.

This illustration, like many I’ve done, was made for for the December Monthly Collectible for 2015, to compliment the collection of items I created :).

Like many of the works I have sitting aside right now, I was eager to share this one, but time has not been on my side. Holiday Hustle, I call it.  For some reason, without fail, even though I’m not working in retail, October through to New Years is the busiest time for me, which makes it really difficult to find time to write, especially when I’m sleep deprived lol.

Aside from that, but also in addition to it, I’ve gone through a really big change in my life that I’ve been waiting for the right moment to sit down and share– and it is a change that will impact on how I run my blog going forward. For example, there are a quite a few changes I wish to make, like to my posting times, subject matter and content, and the structure in which I write. And there are a few things I wish to implement, like challenges and games.

Overall though,  I’ve been at this blog for a full year so far. I’ve experimented, tried different things, found out what works for me, and what doesn’t, and my goal for 2016 is to create a space here that is a bit closer to my vision of what I want my blog to be. Basically a place where I can share my art, and my growth, as I challenge myself in ways that work with my schedule and not against it, so I can be consistent. There’s more to it than that of course, but for now I’m just keeping it simple and sweet 😀 K.I.S.S ya’ll! KISS

Because of the Holiday Hustle, I’ve decided to abandon the Monday Evening Posts for the time being until I can sit down and really sort everything out. I’ll still try to post what I’m up to on a weekly basis with art, or works in progress, but I wont be sweating it lol. In the meantime, for all those who’ve shared your support, or even just read through to this point, thanks 😀  It means a lot to me!

As always, more arts coming soon, Happy Holidays everyone! Till next time, Enjoy!

Monday Evening Post

Hey guys! Bea here! Hope everyone had a good weekend 🙂

So, last time I posted I intended to share the last character sketch on Thursday, but then I realized,Thursday was the holiday…and somehow in a mix of eating food and cake and downloading games like Goat Simulator, iiiit just didn’t happen >_<.  So I’m doubling up in this post, which means two arts will be shared!

Starting first with one of my Inktober drawings, this one being of me, Bea, all gussied up for Halloween!

As some of you may know, it wasn’t an official costume, but I did my hair to make it look like I had kitty ears, wore dark eyeliner and lipstick, painted my nails, wore extra jewelry and went out in a gray dress and boots with mah pea coat!  An unofficial costume that turned out well, if I do say so myself 🙂

I have to be honest though– this is not my exact likeness. Like the other Inktober sketch, it’s small so my pen doesn’t allow me to get all the detail I wanted. More or less, it looks like a cartoon version of me.

Since I’m sharing this though, thought I might add some references photos of…well…, me >_<. I’m very camera shy so it’s hard to get any pics out of me. Like, I literally only do about one selfie session a year, and it’s usually because one of my friends edged me on lol. SO PREPARE TO SEE GOTHIC BEA!

These were all taken last year, while my best friend and I were getting ready for the Halloween party Zy and I hosted on hallows eve.  Funny story, we got carried away– and covered ourselves in more makeup, with fake blood and everything. Ironically my mom decided to bring her guy-friend over and instead of just greeting her at the door looking utterly crazy, we greeted them both….and the guy was kinda freaked out lol.

As a bonus, even my dog dressed up in one of many costumes she owns–

Anyway, it’s always weird drawing myself, trying to make sure it looks like me, and for some reason, drawing my hair is really hard for me. But, this ink drawing didn’t turn out too bad 🙂

Now for the second part of this post– The final character sketch in Seth’s Commission- the Skorrin

The Skorrin is a ghoulish race– but, look more unfriendly than they actually are. Kind of a situation where you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover. Of all of them, I think I like Skorrin the most because I feel like they’re the underdog.

In terms of his design, I intentionally left the sketch very sketchy, to make him look more ominous and rugged.

So there you have it!

sketchos.jpgThe full lineup!

Now all that’s left to do is share the other Inktober sketches– in due time 😀 That said, hope you enjoyed this post, and till next time, Enjoy!

Monday Evening Post

Hey Guys! Bea here, without the second to last character sketch from Seth’s Commission 😀

The Kron

This one was pretty simple, in that Seth had a clear vision of what the Kron was to look like. 10 ft tall, which is why he’s towering over most everyone else in the spread, stronger lower jaw with tusk like teeth, longer arms which they use to walk in a gorilla like fashion, and a flat head.

I’ve never done a body type like this before, so it required a few tries and some study of references before settling upon a final sketch. Again, minimal clothing. I figure a guy this big, it would be hard to dress anyway lol.

Another key feature about the Kron is that they have skin that has a stony appearance, and mossy like fur on it’s back. Seth gave me the choice of doing male or female with this one, and I decided to stick with male 🙂

Now there’s just one character sketch left to share before I get into sharing the Inktober sketches, so, stay tuned!

And as always, till next time, Enjoy!

Commision Update

Hey Guys! Bea here, continuing the posts for Seth’s character sketch commission!

And this time, in our lineup, we have the Human!

The human, just like the Snow Leopard lady were among the only two I had the most flexibility with, in terms of design.

The goal was still to go with minimal clothing, or at the very least, form fitting clothing, which would have been an awesome excuse to make near-non existent armor that you usually find in most fantasy warrior women.  While I enjoy drawing women in provocative clothing from time to time, and the case can be argued that running around in an armored bikini with free flying lady humps is a calculated form of distraction, I can’t help but be practical when it comes to certain designs >_<;

I wasn’t thinking it then, but I guess you could say she is a more-clothed version of Xena. Xena is, after all, one of the few characters who can pull off fighting in a skirt and corset, really really well 😀

Of course, here’s a little animation showing the different layers!

Two more characters in the lineup to go! Hope you liked this post, and as always, till next time, Enjoy!

Character Sketch– The Grix

Hey guys! Bea here! And this time we have The Grix

sketchosSpread2Which is, a wooded faun-like creature 🙂

sketchos2Like the others, minimal clothing was requested, but to tell you a bit about the Grix, much of his design is inspired by the Faun in Pan’s Labyrinth, but intended to be a bit more human-like in appearance. As an added note– his horns are more like bark, with a hint of moss on them– so i decided to color the rest of him to resemble mossy wood.

Here’s a little animation showing his process 😀

sketchos2-animationTomorrow I’ll be taking a break from the character sketch posts, so that I may show you guys what i’ve been working on for inktober since Frankette– considering there are quite a few drawings underway!

Sorry this post is a bit breif– but that’s only because my computer decided to be annoying today and make everything hard on me and I need to shuts it doown >_<.

But, stay tuned, for tomorrow there will be more arts to see! Till next time, Enjoy 😀

Character Sketches- The Cen

Hey Guys! Bea here,

with another character sketch from Seth’s Commission! Lets see– who on the spread shall it be?

sketchosSpread1The Cen!

sketchos1A little bit about the Cen, they are an amphibious/merfolk– Humanoid with thin fins which allow it to swim easier, and a skin similar to a trout or bass. They are also about 5ft tall

Seth was very good about describing how he wanted the Cen to look, down to every feature of his face, which is a plus because it makes designing a character so much easier!

Unlike all the other characters that were sketched out– The Cen is the only one that’s nude– and that’s only because he is an aquatic creature and clothes aren’t really practical.

As before, here’s a little animation showing the process, though his is shorter due to lack of clothes 🙂

sketchos1-animationStay tuned tomorrow to see who we reveal next 😀

Till next time, Enjoy!
