Monday Evening Post

Due to the fact that I’ve been sick for the past few days, and spent Monday bedridden, this post is coming a bit late. It will also be brief, considering I’m still under the weather, so I’ll be saving all the juicy stuff for Thursday!

In the meantime,ย  I’m here to Introduce, Zelda, from Katzenworld

ZeldaSketchHere’s what Marc-Andrรฉ had to say about Zelda!

“Zelda is still very young. Only 6 months old! My sister adopted her. ๐Ÿ™‚ She has perfectly white paws, white whiskers and a little white neck. Her mum was a Persian cat and her dad was of unknown origin! But she is starting to get fluffier. Very playful character and her favorite sleeping and unfortunately playing place is the book shelf! She has knocked down a few books onto my sister haha. :)”

Like the previous sketches, I’ve been trying to incorporate little habits the kitties have in the sketches, so naturally, I drew Zelda nice and snug in a book shelf, ready and waiting for passers by! used a reference for this one.

Two more cats to go, which I may just finish on Thursday for that post, and all the sketches will be finished ๐Ÿ™‚ In the meantime, I’d like to thank Marc-andre for sharing the sketches on his blog. I’ve been kind of out overwhelmed and out of it for the past month so I haven’t been as responsive as I would like to be– but again, thank you!

Till next time, Enjoy!

Thursday Evening Post

I’ve been introducing you guys to quite a few kitties over the past couple of weeks. Well, today, I’d like to introduce you to a special someone of mine– Please meet Brook, aka, Boodah!

Brook1My chihwuwu, in human form :D!

brookersand uh… in dog form :D!

Contrary to popular belief, my chiwuwu is anything but loud. In fact– she’s a very quiet, an incredibly timid doggie, that’s easily frightened, especially by thunder and rain, which would explain why her ears were back in this photo >_<. She is however vocal when she’s excited, greeting you with doggie whimpers and squeelz that make you ponder if she’s trying to conjure up human words.

I love her! She’s mah baby, and a proud member of the household, so as a challenge to myself, I wanted to draw her portrait, but with her as a human!

This is something I actually wanted to do for quite some time, but only until recently was I able to commit to it, and I went through quite a few drafts, like these, to flesh out her design.

This draft being one I did about two years ago, featuring Brook getting into toilet paper, which she does, and begging for attention, which she also does, a lot >_<.

and this one, in preparation for final version

There were a few things that I knew for sure I wanted to do when I drew Brook. I wanted to show her personality and I wanted her eyes to be big. Brooks eyes are truly her best feature– big and brown and full of emotion. all things considered, it was only natural I drew her like an anime character, lol!

As mentioned in the Monday Evening Post, I was practicing a method I call the Blockout Method, with my painting. These drafts were done in a similar fashion, and I have a little animation following my process :D!

BrookanimateI usually work off quite a few references– some I make, and some I gather from stock or other sources. The 3rd ref is actually a stock image I purchased earlier in the year that I finally decided to use, for it’s color pallet. The background I painted is also based off the stock image.

Overall, I had fun painting Brook! and I look forward to doing similar portraits to other furry beasts that are near and dear to my heart ๐Ÿ˜€

Check back tomorrow for another update on the sketches for Katzenworld! Till next time, Enjoy!

Monday Evening Post

Introducing: Oliver, from Katzenworld!

OliverSketchSo what did Marc have to say about Oliver?

In addition to liking to nap, Oliver is also the more mischievous one of the two and gets himself into trouble, especially when he tries to open cupboards +.+”

This was a simple concept to put together– draw Oliver peeking his head out from the cupboard he knows he shouldn’t be in ๐Ÿ™‚

With that said, there are 3 cats to go! Till next time, enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€

Monday Evening Post

Seductress of the Deep

DeepSeductressOkay, this post is a biit NSFW >_<, so I’m setting it apart from the post Oliver the cat will be featured in, which will be published as a secondary Monday Evening Post, in the evening.

Basically I’ve been quite exhausted after getting slammed with a ton of work at one time, resulting in quite a few sleepless nights, and mis-timed posts that I’m still kinda recovering from via multiple naps throughout the day lol! But I’m well enough now that I’m able to draw, produce more works, and get back on track with more detailed posts involving my process. That’s what this one is about.

I’m constantly learning, trying new things to help me get my ideas out better, so this time around I decided to try a method I’ve seen a lot of artists using, to see if it would help me move faster. I don’t have the official name for it, but I’m going to refer to it as the block-out method, where you basically work off a silhouette and block in shapes using color, before applying details and really fleshing it all out. The purpose of this method? To keep your work loose and energetic, and also because it consumes less time.

And for me, it did :D. This is one of three illustrations that I did in a short time using this method, the other two will be featured in the this Thursday Evening Post. For those of you who are interested, I included a little animation detailing the steps!

MermaidGifYou may notice the image in the upper right hand corner. This is my reference, which I created. I don’t have models to pose for me, so most times when I have an idea that I’m having a hard time picturing in my head, I’ll use programs like Poser, DazStudio, and/or Google Sketchup, to create poses and compositions using the 3d models that are available to me. These programs aren’t perfect, as the models themselves are a bit stiff to me,ย  but they are very useful tools, that really help build accuracy in your work by at least allowing you to see you ideas in action.

Hope you enjoyed this post! In the meantime, check back later to see the new sketch for Oliver from Katzenworld!

and as always, Enjoy!

Thursday Evening Post

The Fox and the Hound
April MCA low growl could be heard from within the darkness, growing stronger with each encroaching footstep…

a warning…to not get too close.

This is the illustration for 2015’s April Monthly Collectable for,
Featuring the Seraphic Fox- A fabled creature of great power, the Seraphic Fox enchanted the creatures of her forest to both hide and protect her from hunters who seek to capture her for their own gain/ And the Vigilant Hound, enchanted by the Seraphic fox, this wolf-like beast can take the form of a man, and serves as her protector, ensuring that she remains free.

So, yay! New arts to share! I’m actually still quite worn out from my workload, so my sleeping schedule and drawing schedule are quite off–leaving me short for words. It kinda happens when all you want to do is sleep >_<ย  but I’m excited about the other works in progress i get to share with you guys! Also, look for the sketch of Oliver from Katzenworld, to be posted soon ๐Ÿ˜€

For now, imma get some sleep >_< Enjoy!

Monday Evening Post

Back on Track!

” life has a funny way of sneaking up on you when you think everything’s okay, and everything’s going right…And ya well life has a funny way of helping you out when you think everything’s gone wrong and everything blows up in your face”

Anyone remember these lyrics? The song is called Ironic, by Alanis Morissette. One of my favorite genre’s of music is alternative rock, and she was one of my favorite artists growing up, and this song really stood out to me. Like it gives me chills, in a weird way, and I’m not sure what to make it of! Anyway, I’ve mentioned it in an earlier post, that I’m preparing my portfolio for the San Diego Comicon. Business has been casual– a few projects here and there, but nothing overwhelming, so I planned to use the next couple of months to focus on learning and creating art to show. “Ironically” since I’ve made this decision, In the course of a week,ย  I have been called, emailed, received texts from past clients– some of which I have not heard from in years, and new clients– all of them, looking to commission me, for quite ambitions projects. Even as I was writing this post, I got a call. I can’t help but wonder why this happened, all of a sudden, and on the magnitude that it has, shortly after making my decision >_<;

I’ve been on and off the phone, in and out meeting with people for the past couple of days, while maintaining the “three” jobs I have currently, and unfortunately I was in a position where I was unable to publish my Thursday Evening Post. So here we are, on Monday! I still have a ton of things to sort out, and figure out, but I’m back on track, and I have arts to share!

Introducing Nubia, from Katzenworld!

NubiaSketchSo what did Marc Andre have to say about the lovely Nubia??

“Nubia as you gathered is very playful and not so easily seen from the photos NOISY!!! We sometimes jokingly call her Nubzilla the chatterer of peace haha.”

Of all the kitties from Katzenworld, Nubia has to be one of my favorites. I actually played around with a lot of ideas with her! Like drawing her as Godzilla, destroying paper box cutouts, designed to look like a miniature city in comparison to her size, and contemplated how I could draw her being chatty– but I figured the best approach would be the simpler approach, so Iย  drew her covered in yarn to express her playful nature. Look at her face! She knows no shame in getting into stuff! It is who she is! lol I love drawing her!

Next up, will be Oliver, accompanied by some personal work I’m eager to share ๐Ÿ˜€

Also I want to share a song I listened to quite a bit while drawing Nubia. It’s just a beat, but it’s happy and light and quite enjoyable. Hope you like it too!

Till next time, Enjoy!

Monday Evening Post

Lazy Afternoons with Mao, from Katzenworld

My posts are running at weird times, mostly because I’m doing other projects, that force me to work on my sketches late into the night, but I should be back on schedule and more timely with my posts starting next week. ๐Ÿ˜€

So, when I asked Marc what he could tell me about Mao, this is what he had to say ๐Ÿ˜€

“Slightly chubby! Looks like an emperor penguin– She is the lazier of one of the two (herself and Snowball) and loves to nap on anything in her way especially the sofa.”

So I drew a sketch of Mao on the Sofa, napping lol! Again I tried sticking close with the original concept in the banner, only with sunset colors for atmospheric purposes. Because Mao and Snowball look quite alike to me, I may have got her fur pattern wrong, but like all these sketches they will be cleaned up and made to look better when it’s time to refine them.

I’ll also include each new cat to this spread as I go on

Till next time, Enjoy!
